About Ongar

Ongar is named after the village of Chipping Ongar in England. The name 'Ongar' derives from an old Norse word meaning 'meadows, grazing lands' and has a close cognates in the modern Norwegian 'enger', Swedish 'ängar' and Danish 'enge'

Ongar and the surrounding areas have an intriguing history. We live in a place that has seen the comings and goings of such diverse figures as the third Aga Khan, Hollywood star Rita Hayworth and St Patrick.
